New York State Certification in Social Studies and SDA/SDLInterim Director of Social Studies shall be directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and the Superintendent of Schools. The Interim Director of Social Studies must have a strong understanding of best practices in teaching and learning. The Interim Director of Social Studies will supervise the social studies department and assist in assessing staffing needs, coordinating recruiting, hiring and supporting of new staff. Specific Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Duties: Knowledge of New York State K-12 standards and assessments; Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills;Skilled with data analysis and informed decision making;Ability to gain rapport and confidence of all segments of the school community;Designs, schedules and coordinates professional development related to Social Studies Instruction (K-12);Evaluates and analyzes student achievement data for department placement and instructional program;Leads the social studies department in establishing goals.
