Harborfields Central School District is seeking a highly motivated, student centered Permanent Substitute Guidance Counselor to support students and the school counseling program during the 2026–2027 school year. This position will report daily. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with school counselors, administrators, teachers, students, and families to promote student academic success, social emotional growth, and college and career readiness. Responsibilities Provide individual and small group counseling and student support Assist students with academic planning, scheduling, and goal setting Support students experiencing academic, social, emotional, or behavioral concerns Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff Participate in student support and problem solving meetings as appropriate Assist with college and career readiness activities Maintain appropriate student records and documentation Support crisis intervention and referral processes when necessary Perform other counseling related responsibilities as assigned by the building administration Qualifications New York State certification as a School Counselor required Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Ability to establish positive relationships with students and families Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative school team Commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of all students Experience working in a school setting preferred Harborfields Central School District is committed to providing a supportive learning environment in which every student is known, valued, and encouraged to succeed.
