Position OverviewHoosic Valley Central School District is seeking a K-2 Communication Classroom Teacher to fill a full-time, probationary Special Education Teacher position beginning immediately. This specialized role focuses on supporting students with significant communication delays, developmental disabilities, and/or autism spectrum disorders. The teacher will create a structured and inclusive learning environment that promotes communication development, social-emotional growth, and academic growth. NYS Certification in Special Education birth-2nd or K-6 required.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with students’ needs, incorporating evidence-based practices and state standards.Develop engaging and differentiated lesson plans that address academic, communication, and social-emotional goals.Utilize augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools, such as picture exchange systems, voice-output devices, and visual schedules.Use proactive behavior management strategies and positive reinforcement to address challenging behaviors.Create clear routines and transitions to support students’ understanding and predictability.Work collaboratively with paraprofessionals, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other related service providers.Maintain consistent communication with families to share progress, strategies, and ways to support learning at home.
