2024 - 2025 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCYPrevious applicants do not need to reapply POSITION: DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH & ATHLETICS Directs, administers, manages, and supervises the Physical Education and Health programs, Inter-Scholastic athletics, and intramural athletic programs of the district. Participates in the planning, assessment, and revision of these programs under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Special Programs. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, best practices and current trends in Physical Education, Health Education, and Inter-Scholastic Athletics. Broad understanding of the role of Physical Education/Health and Athletics in the general education programs of the district. QUALIFICATIONS:- An advanced degree in Physical Education/Health and School Administration, including SDA certification from NYS; a valid NYS Driver’s License; good physical health.- A minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a Physical Education/Health teacher and evidence of increasing levels of responsibilities for coordinating and/or supervision of programs.- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to present and defend the programs, policies and procedures of the district to parents, other community members, staff and students. INSTRUCTIONAL SUPERVISION: Works with staff in the development and formulation of the philosophy and goals of the Physical Education and Athletics/Health program.Works with physical education and coaching staff in developing budget requests for submission to the Assistant Superintendent for Business or his/her designee.Supervises and is responsible for inventory, distribution, collection, and storage of building physical education and athletic equipment.Works with the Coordinator of Science to provide integration of physical education with health, nutrition, and other selected science topics.Works with Coordinator of Special Education to help develop an appropriate program in adaptive physical education. Works with building principals and security staff to provide adequate supervision at athletic events.Works with Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds for preparation of facilities for athletic events.Works with the Transportation office to secure buses for athletic events.Coordinates the District’s athletic programs with outside agencies, as needed.Makes recommendations for the improvement or addition of adequate facilities, for physical education and athletic programs, to the Superintendent of Schools for consideration and referral.Integrates the Physical Education program with interscholastic athletics.Ensures compliance with all State and District requirements dealing with health, physical education, and interscholastic participation.
