2022 - 2023 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCY POSITION: SCHOOL COUNSELOR (Bilingual Preferred) LOCATION: Hempstead High School REQUIREMENTS: Valid New York State Certification DUTIES: Counsel students individually and in groups, in regard to education, vocational, social or personal concern. Study student needs through the use of records, tests, observations, consultations and interviews. Assist students in evaluation of their abilities and interests. Interpret information to students, parents and teachers. Assist in identification of students with special needs. Refer to other members of pupil personnel team when appropriate. Inform students and/or parents about the school programs and optional activities available to them. Plan guidance for field trips to schools, colleges and industry, for interested students Make recommendations for colleges, for admission and scholarships Help students evaluate career interest and choices Participate in the ongoing educational planning of the school staff, contributing professional understanding of the needs of the whole child, to the creation of an optimal learning climate.
