Hicksville Public Schools is accepting applications for the following position: Teacher Aide (Part Time) Part Time: 3.25 hours per day per contract Qualifications: 1. High School Diploma 2. Some knowledge of classroom routines 3. Ability to perform basic clerical tasks 4. Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents and staff 5. Ability to maintain classroom management 6. Ability to follow directions 7. Teacher Aides shall be of good moral character A teacher aide is appointed by a board of education to assist teachers "in the performance of their teaching functions by performing those non-teaching duties otherwise performed by such regular teacher or teachers.” Responsibilities: Non-instructional (non-certificated) service aides are defined as persons who work directly, under supervision, on tasks, which are of a routine non-instructional nature. Aides may perform such duties as taking attendance, filing, and keeping routine records and charts for the teacher showing pupil performance; supervising playground activities, lunchroom, lavatory periods, quiet activities, etc. under teacher supervision; helping children with their clothes; escorting children to the nurse; and any other duties assigned by the building principal. Assist the certificated teacher with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, field trips, hallways, playground and bus loading / unloading activities. Assist students with clothing, wash-up and toilet routines, including diapering if necessary. Assist with lunch, snacks and other clean-up duties, as assigned. Assure the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures and maintain the learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner. Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor students during outdoor activities as directed, become familiar with student IEP goals and report progress regarding student performance and behavior to supervising teacher.
