HENDRICK HUDSON HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL GENERAL DUTIES The high school assistant principal collaborates with the principal with the direction, supervision and administration of the grades 9-12 building, functioning within the guidelines and policies as established by the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools, and his/her designee. A successful high school leader fosters an environment which emphasizes a clear vision, high expectations for all students, effective decision-making, strong communication and collaboration, and a curriculum aligned with standards. It also includes a supportive learning environment focused on adolescent social/emotional well-being and a sense of belonging. The high school assistant principal advocates for teacher professional learning, as well as significant family and community involvement. The high school assistant principal is the lead manager of student life and behavior in accordance with the Code of Conduct. Reports to the High School Principal. The high school assistant principal has delegated authority from the principal to whom there is direct accountability. Responsibilities—Administrative Assumes total building responsibility in the principal's absence Is a member of the District Administrative Council Participates in all meetings of the Principal Council; presides in Principal's absence Assists the Principal in recruiting, interviewing and selection process for teacher candidates and Instructional Leaders. Assists in orientation of new staff Participates in all meetings of the Instructional Support Team to provide relevant information on the student's behavior in the building Assists in organizing and scheduling teacher workshops and student assemblies Produces the Master Schedule in accordance with the teaching assignments determined by the principal Is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the grade reporting system. This includes preparation and publications of the Honor Roll and High Honor Roll Prepares all necessary information and procedure on the recording and reporting of final examinations and final grades Organizes and administers the substitute teacher program Prepares and distributes the Student Handbook annually Monitors Tech school students and administers communication system for these students attending the high school only part of the day Coordinate the Graduation ceremonies Assigns cars of all staff members to parking spaces and issue approved permits Responsibilities—Supervisory Establishes and maintains an atmosphere of orderly conduct, conducive to academic pursuits. In conjunction with this, the Assistant Principal shall: Hold conferences with teachers regarding student behavior Contact parents on matters of behavior Supports the principal in investigations, and may provide parents / staff with notification of action Oversees, with the Director of PE, Health and Athletics, the implementation of eligibility for participation and the selective classification process Maintain a detailed file on all disciplinary action taken Organize and oversee a detention program Handle all bus conduct reports, consistent with the district policy Be visible during the school day, making frequent checks of the building Evaluate the performance of the instructional staff and to provide, as per the APPR, formal written evaluations. It also requires the principal working with staff who require support and assistance in improving their performance. Schedules teacher monitoring responsibility, study hall and homeroom assignments Maintains a precise record of personnel absences, including all certificated and non-classified staff. Provide staff with absence forms, verify them and give them to the Principal for approval Schedules and supervises the school monitors, including teacher aides Monitors student attendance and punctuality and takes appropriate steps to remedy any apparent problems Maintains a liaison with the Assistant Principal of the Tech Center to coordinate policies regarding attendance, driving to Tech, discipline, etc. Arrange for all buses for field trips and maintain and monitor a record of student participation in such trips, consistent with the established field trip policy Conduct fire drills and submit to the Principal the date and time of each drill, as well as the time required to completely vacate the building Responsibilities: Curriculum Serves on any curriculum committees as assigned by the Principal Recommends changes in courses of study, organization of classes, and teacher assignments Supervises Title I services in the high school, including the supervision and evaluation of personnel, the program schedule, evaluation of program schedule and an evaluation of program effectiveness Responsibilities: Other Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the building Principal and/or Superintendent of Schools and designee ?
