Director of Counseling ServicesDivision: K-12Reports to: Executive Director for Curriculum and InstructionSpecific Responsibilities:Supervisory 1. Supervise school counselors and counseling/guidance related support/clerical personnel district wide.2. Supervise the HS Academy ProgramCollege and Career Planning and Placement 1. Develop programs to help students select careers and colleges that fit their needs, abilities, and ambitions. 2. Create and maintain relationships with colleges in an effort to stay abreast of trends in college placement and programs 3. Develop working relationships with college admission officers, financial aid officers, and employers to support students in college and career planning functions. 4. Oversee, plan and implement special events, programs, and activities such as college and financial aid nights, and career fair days. 5. Assist the District in developing and implementing outreach to HHSD graduates6. Prepare and edit the school profile, departmental handbook, and newsletters as required.7. Develop and oversee 4 year HS individual student plans leading to college, vocational or career outcomes.8. Develop and implement a MS/HS local CDOS program in the district Academic Counseling, Testing and Records 1. Coordinate with district personnel to ensure academic support and intervention for all students. Partner with district personnel to develop, implement and supervise programs that help students reach their full potential. 2. Oversee the implementation of the college admission testing program which includes PSAT, Advanced Placement, and coordinate with district personnel to ensure appropriate accommodations for SAT and ACT tests. 3. Collaborate as an educational advisor to professional staff to improve academic programing and course offerings. 4. Develop and implement projects and programs that may be integrated into the academic curriculum. 5. Partner with buildings and staff to coordinate the annual course selection and scheduling process. 6. Advocate for student needs based on relevant data. 7. Oversee the development and implementation of a K-5 counseling program in alignment with appropriate regulations and the K-12 Comprehensive Counseling Plan. 8. Consult with building principals on an as needed basis to review or support age appropriate child development programs. Program and Financial Management 1. Develop and present budget recommendations and provide expenditure controls for counseling and guidance programs. 2. Approve all supplies, materials and texts used by counseling and guidance programs/services. 3. Provide leadership in assessing district wide needs and provide recommendations as needed. 4. Develop departmental goals and future priorities aligned to district strategic directions. Staff and Program Evaluation and Development 1. Ensure articulation and development of counseling and guidance services/programs K-12 through chairing regular departmental meetings. 2. Conduct observation and evaluations of counseling and guidance personnel. 3. Assist in the identification of training programs for counseling and guidance personnel. 4. Prepare and deliver reports and monitoring updates as needed. 5. Advise district leadership, and other stakeholders, on relevant issues as required. Other 1. Update, implement, and ensure alignment of District functions with the NYSED mandated K-12 Comprehensive Counseling Plan. 2. Serve on district and community committees as required. 3. Coordinate district and building based programs relating to the social and emotional needs of students. 4. Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership. Desired Qualifications/Professional Dispositions1. 3-5 years counseling experience and/or program management experience. 2. Strong college and career placement skills. 3. Command of technology use to support efficiencies and innovation in job duties. 4. Experience with program budget management and staff development. 5. Clear understanding of function related state and local policies, mandates, regulations and requirements. 6. Demonstrate the motivation and flexibility necessary to handle multiple initiatives at one time. 7. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with administrative colleagues, staff, parents, and students.Anticipated Start Date: July 3, 2023NYS SDL certification required.
