Teaching Assistant - Special Class Salary: Starting at $22.63/hr, commensurate based upon experienceEffective Date: August 29, 2024 Hours: M-F, 8:15am - 3:15pm Appropriate Teaching Assistant Certification Required This posting is for a Teaching Assistant to be assigned to our K-2 Special Class. The program is a multi-grade, special education class of no more than 12 students with 1 special education teacher, 1 Teaching Assistant and 1 aide. The classroom is embedded within Haldane Elementary School and has access to all that the school offers. The program is designed to support students who are on the Autism spectrum, or who have similar needs/profiles, especially related to increasing social and functional communication skills, to developing adaptive behaviors and social connections, and to facilitate learning behaviors to increase access to academic achievement. The majority of the delivery of instruction and support will take place within the special classroom, however the goal of the program is to develop the whole child such that each has the skill set to increasingly benefit from thoughtful and structured integration with typical peers.Duties: This role requires close collaboration with the homeroom teacher of the K-2 Special Class. The TA may deliver instruction in the self contained setting under the direction and supervision of the teacher. They may also facilitate push out to integrated settings under the collaborative direction of the Special Class teacher and the teacher of the integrated setting. When the lead teacher is absent the Teaching Assistant may be asked to cover the class. The position will require use of hand-over-hand instruction and safety care training on de-escalation and restraint (this course is offered by the school and includes verbal de-escalation, physical guides, transport, grab releases, and restraint).
