The Haldane Central School District, located in Cold Spring, New York, is seeking a full-time, NYS-certified School Counselor. The position is probationary and is expected to begin on or around September 1, 2024. Haldane CSD is a small, welcoming and eclectic district nestled on one campus on the mountainside overlooking the picturesque Hudson River Valley. The current Counselor role will primarily be with students from grades 9 and 10, as well as for 8th graders as they transition to high school, however, there will be district-wide responsibilities and expectations as well. The ideal candidate should be prepared to be part of a dynamic team tasked with improving the social, emotional, and mental well-being of all students in the Haldane school community. To that end, the Haldane CSD is seeking a candidate whose values will align with the Haldane Essentials (Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Communication, Growth Mindset, and Wellness) and whose priorities include ensuring a safe, respectful, culturally aware, and inclusive school environment. The candidate must be able to collaborate well with colleagues, to form strong working relationships with families, and to demonstrate the foundational knowledge (i.e., NYS Social Emotional Learning Benchmarks, the NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework) essential to providing school-based counseling support services to a diverse set of students. The candidate will be required to engage in scheduling work, to coordinate transition planning between middle and high school, as well as to conduct group and individual counseling. A key member of the school team, the School Counselor is expected to be present, visible, and involved in the learning community; the Counselor will be a member of many important committees, such as the Threat Assessment Team, the Mental Health Team, and the Student Support Team.
