Position Overview: Seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to work in a high school program serving students with autism and other developmental disabilities. The teacher will provide individualized instruction focused on functional academics, daily living skills, and vocational training to prepare students for increased independence and post-secondary transition. The ideal candidate has experience working with students with autism and is familiar with the New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA). Responsibilities: Provide specialized instruction in functional academics, communication, daily living, and vocational skills aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans tailored to students with autism and related disabilities. Prepare students for transition outcomes, including community participation, employment readiness, and independent living skills. Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals. Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and general education staff to support student success. Communicate regularly with families and participate in IEP meetings and transition planning. Implement positive behavioral supports and structured learning environments that support students with autism. Qualifications: Valid New York State Special Education Teaching Certification (Students with Disabilities 7-12). Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder in a high school or secondary setting. Experience teaching functional academics, daily living skills, and vocational training. Familiarity with NYSAA and alternate assessment frameworks. Strong collaboration, classroom management, and data collection skills. Commitment to fostering student independence and meaningful post-secondary outcomes.
