Position The Greenburgh Central School District seeks a dedicated and student-centered School Social Worker to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of all students. In alignment with GCSD’s mission to educate students in a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment and its commitment to developing socially and emotionally competent global citizens, the School Social Worker serves as a vital member of the student support team, fostering resilience, equity, and student well-being. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive school social work services, including counseling, crisis intervention, case management, consultation, special education support, family engagement, and community collaboration. The School Social Worker will work closely with students, families, educators, administrators, and community partners to remove barriers to learning and promote positive educational outcomes for all students. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Student Counseling and Social-Emotional Support Provide individual and group counseling services to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, academic, and mental health challenges. Deliver counseling services mandated through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and monitor student progress toward established goals. Utilize evidence-based social-emotional learning (SEL) practices and trauma-informed interventions to support student growth and well-being. Assist students in developing self-regulation, coping, conflict resolution, communication, and problem-solving skills. Crisis Intervention and Mental Health Services Conduct crisis assessments and provide immediate intervention and support during student, family, or school emergencies. Support students experiencing emotional or behavioral crises through de-escalation techniques, safety planning, and coordination of services. Collaborate with families, hospitals, and mental health providers to facilitate successful transitions to and from hospitalization, residential treatment, or intensive mental health services. Participate in district crisis response efforts as needed. Special Education Services Conduct comprehensive social histories and psychosocial assessments as part of initial and triennial evaluations for the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). Serve as an active member of the CSE/CPSE and multidisciplinary teams in the identification, placement, and review of students with disabilities. Participate in annual reviews, reevaluation meetings, manifestation determination reviews, and other special education processes. Provide recommendations and interventions to support students’ educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Behavioral Support and Intervention Collaborate with school teams to conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs). Lead or support multidisciplinary teams in implementing positive behavioral interventions and progress monitoring. Consult with teachers and staff regarding student behavior, attendance, and engagement concerns. Family and Community Engagement Serve as a liaison between home, school, and community agencies to ensure coordinated support for students and families. Conduct home visits as appropriate to strengthen family-school partnerships and address barriers to student success. Connect families with community resources, including mental health services, housing assistance, healthcare providers, food resources, and other support systems. Facilitate parent meetings, workshops, and informational sessions to promote student success and family engagement. Collaboration and Consultation Work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, school psychologists, counselors, and related service providers to develop and implement student support plans. Participate in student support teams, intervention teams, attendance teams, and other building-level initiatives. Provide consultation and professional development to staff regarding mental health, trauma-informed practices, social-emotional learning, behavioral supports, and equity-focused interventions. Contribute to district and building initiatives that promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate. Documentation and Compliance Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records in accordance with district policies, New York State regulations, and professional social work standards. Complete required progress reports, service logs, case notes, evaluations, and documentation related to counseling and special education services. Complete Medicaid billing and related documentation as appropriate. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district requirements. Additional Duties Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning activities, district committees, and school-based events. Support district initiatives that promote student achievement, equity, inclusion, and social-emotional wellness. Perform other duties associated with the position as assigned by administration. Qualifications Valid School Social Worker NYS certification Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and instructional practices. Experience working in diverse school communities. Experience with restorative practices, mental health programming, and family support services. Knowledge of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs), Medicaid billing, and special education processes. Experience participating in CSE/CPSE meetings and multidisciplinary student support teams. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
