Position Greenburgh Central School District seeks a collaborative, student-centered Life Science Biology Teacher to deliver engaging, standards-based instruction at the secondary level. The successful candidate will lead high school Biology and Living Environment courses, including Academic Intervention Services (AIS) classes, to enhance student achievement and Regents examination readiness. The ideal candidate facilitates rigorous, inquiry-based learning that promotes scientific literacy and critical thinking while addressing the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Design and deliver engaging Biology/Living Environment instruction aligned with: New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) Regents curriculum expectations District instructional goals and strategic priorities Provide targeted academic support through AIS Biology instruction to improve student achievement and Regents readiness. Develop and implement rigorous, standards-based lesson plans incorporating: Inquiry-based instruction Project-based learning Hands-on laboratory investigations Scientific data analysis Differentiate instruction, assessments, and learning experiences to support diverse learners, including English Language Learners, students with disabilities, and students with varying academic needs. Foster a positive, culturally responsive, inclusive, and academically challenging classroom environment that promotes student engagement and success. Utilize formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and implement data-driven instructional strategies. Integrate instructional technology and laboratory experiences to deepen student understanding of biological concepts, including: Cellular processes Genetics Ecology Evolution Human body systems Promote scientific literacy, analytical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and real-world problem-solving skills. Desired Qualifications & Skills Successful candidates will demonstrate: Strong content knowledge in Biology/Living Environment at the secondary level. Thorough understanding of the New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), Regents curriculum expectations, and assessment frameworks. Proven ability to design and deliver rigorous, student-centered, inquiry-based instruction that promotes student engagement, critical thinking, and academic achievement. Experience differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities. Effective classroom management practices that foster a safe, inclusive, equitable, and academically challenging learning environment. Proficiency in integrating instructional technology, laboratory investigations, scientific inquiry, and data analysis into daily instruction. Strong curriculum development, lesson planning, organizational, and instructional planning skills. Ability to analyze student performance data and implement data-driven instructional strategies to support student growth and achievement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices, educational equity, and inclusive instruction. Ability to cultivate curiosity, collaboration, creativity, independent thinking, and scientific inquiry among students. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills within a dynamic educational environment. Experience participating in curriculum development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional learning communities preferred. Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective instructional practice. Prior experience teaching Regents-level Biology/Living Environment courses strongly preferred. Qualifications Valid NYS certification in Earth Science Biology (7-12) Strong knowledge of New York State Science Learning Standards and Regents examination expectations. Experience differentiating instruction and supporting students with varying academic needs. Ability to create engaging, student-centered science instruction and laboratory experiences. Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills. Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and academically rigorous learning environment. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
