Position The Greenburgh Central School District is seeking highly dependable, observant, and professional candidates to fulfill the role of Substitute School Security Monitor. This critical position contributes significantly to maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming educational environment for students, staff, and visitors. School Security Monitors are instrumental in supporting daily school operations by prioritizing student safety, monitoring movement throughout the facility and grounds, upholding established school expectations, and providing assistance with the general supervision of students during school hours and at school-sponsored functions. The exemplary candidate will demonstrate acute situational awareness, sound judgment, high professionalism, and a dedicated commitment to cultivating a positive and orderly school climate. This description is not exhaustive, and additional, related duties may be assigned as necessary. Key Responsibilities Include: The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Maintain assigned stationary and/or mobile posts during the school day, as well as during extracurricular activities and school-sponsored events. Conduct routine interior and exterior security inspections of the building before, during, and after school hours to ensure a safe and secure environment. Monitor hallways, entrances, lobbies, cafeterias, parking areas, and other common spaces to uphold orderly student conduct and overall school safety. Monitor and verify student passes and maintain vigilance for any unusual, unsafe, or concerning activity within the school environment. Facilitate smooth and orderly transitions between classes by reinforcing school rules, expectations, and procedures. Assist school personnel with student supervision and, when necessary, escort students in accordance with district policies and administrative directives. Enforce district safety policies, including the “No Smoking” policy on all school grounds, and promptly report violations to appropriate administrative staff. Support safe and orderly student arrival, dismissal, and transportation procedures, including monitoring bus and pickup areas. Monitor building entrances and exits to ensure that only authorized individuals access school facilities. Provide supervision and support for extracurricular, after-school, and weekend activities as required. Participate in team briefings or debriefings to review daily safety concerns, incidents, and operational updates. Perform additional related duties as assigned to support the safety, security, and effective operation of the school district. Qualifications Possession of a high school diploma is required. Successful completion of the following workshops prior to employment: Child Abuse Identification, School Violence Prevention and Intervention, and Dignity for All Students Act (DASA). Fingerprinting clearance is mandatory. Demonstrated ability to adhere to written and verbal instructions. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational proficiencies. A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices. Bilingual/Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to submit an application. Prior classroom experience is preferred, but not requisite. Physical ability to meet the demands of an active school environment. Prior experience working in a school, security, youth services, or a related field preferred. APPOINTMENT: Appointment to this position shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, following a comprehensive review of the candidate’s training, experience, certifications, credentials, and demonstrated qualifications.
