Position The Greenburgh Central School District is seeking a highly qualified, dynamic, and student-centered Earth & Space Science Teacher. The successful candidate will provide engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) while fostering a positive, inclusive, culturally responsive, and academically rigorous learning environment for students in grades 6–12. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong content knowledge in Earth & Space Science and employ inquiry-based, differentiated instructional practices, authentic laboratory experiences, technology integration, and data-informed strategies to support diverse learners, promote scientific literacy and critical thinking, and prepare students for success on the New York State Earth & Space Science Regents Examination. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Deliver high-quality instruction in Earth & Space Science at the middle and/or high school levels, including Regents-level coursework aligned with New York State standards. Design and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans aligned with the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) and district curriculum frameworks. Prepare students for success on the New York State Earth & Space Science Regents Examination through rigorous instruction, laboratory investigations, and data analysis practices. Employ inquiry-based, phenomenon-driven, data-informed, and differentiated instructional strategies to meet the academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of diverse learners. Integrate authentic laboratory experiences, field-based learning opportunities, scientific modeling, instructional technology, and interdisciplinary connections to enhance student engagement and scientific literacy. Foster a positive, inclusive, culturally responsive, and academically rigorous classroom environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and student achievement. Assess, monitor, and communicate student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment practices aligned with NYSSLS performance expectations. Utilize student performance data to inform instruction, intervention strategies, and continuous improvement of teaching practices. Collaborate with administrators, science department colleagues, counselors, related service providers, and support staff to support student growth and achievement. Maintain consistent and professional communication with students, families, and staff regarding academic progress, classroom expectations, and student needs. Participate actively in professional development, faculty meetings, curriculum writing, professional learning communities, and district-wide initiatives. Maintain accurate records and laboratory documentation in accordance with district policies, NYSED regulations, and Regents laboratory requirements. Desired Qualifications & Skills Successful candidates will demonstrate: Strong content expertise in Earth & Space Science for grades 6–12, including geology, meteorology, astronomy, climate systems, and environmental processes. Thorough knowledge of NYSSLS, Regents curriculum expectations, science practices, and assessment frameworks. Proven ability to design and deliver rigorous, student-centered, inquiry-based science instruction that promotes engagement, scientific reasoning, and academic achievement. Experience in differentiating instruction to support diverse learners, including English Language Learners, students with disabilities, and students with varying academic backgrounds. Effective classroom management skills that promote a safe, equitable, inclusive, and academically challenging learning environment aligned with district values. Proficiency in integrating instructional technology, laboratory investigations, GIS/maps, scientific simulations, data analysis tools, and real-world scientific phenomena into daily instruction. Strong skills in curriculum development, lesson planning, organization, and implementation of hands-on scientific inquiry. Ability to analyze student assessment data and apply data-driven instructional strategies to improve student outcomes and Regents performance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Commitment to culturally responsive teaching, educational equity, and inclusive instructional practices that honor diverse perspectives and experiences. Ability to foster scientific curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and independent inquiry among students. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills within a dynamic middle/high school learning environment. Experience participating in interdisciplinary planning, curriculum development, STEM initiatives, and professional learning communities preferred. Commitment to ongoing professional growth, reflective instructional practice, and continuous improvement. Prior experience teaching Regents-level Earth & Space Science courses and preparing students for Regents assessments strongly preferred. Qualifications Valid NYS certification in Earth Science (Grades 7-12) Strong knowledge of New York State Science Learning Standards and Regents examination expectations. Ability to create engaging, student-centered science instruction and laboratory experiences. Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills. Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and academically rigorous learning environment. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
