Position The Greenburgh Central School District seeks a creative and student-centered Art Teacher to serve students at Lee F. Jackson Elementary School (grades K–1) within the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). The successful candidate shall design and deliver inquiry-based, transdisciplinary art instruction that cultivates creativity, curiosity, and self-expression while supporting the development of the IB Learner Profile. This educator will be responsible for fostering a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that reflects the developmental needs of early learners and promotes global awareness, cultural understanding, and social-emotional growth. Furthermore, the Art Teacher shall integrate technology, collaborate with colleagues to support PYP units of inquiry, and contribute to a vibrant school culture that values creativity, reflection, and student voice. This is a 10-month position; duties and responsibilities are subject to change, and additional, related assignments may be required. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Develop and execute a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate visual arts curriculum, ensuring alignment with the New York State Standards for the Arts and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The curriculum should encompass drawing, painting, digital media, and three-dimensional art. Conceptualize and deliver inquiry-based, transdisciplinary learning experiences that establish connections between art and PYP units of inquiry, thereby fostering exploration, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Incorporate technology and digital media instruments to augment artistic expression and cultivate essential 21st-century learning competencies. Demonstrate and instruct a diverse range of artistic methodologies in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, utilizing hands-on, student-centered pedagogies suitable for early childhood learners. Evaluate student achievement through authentic, formative assessment practices, promoting self-reflection and continuous improvement in accordance with IB standards. Establish a secure, inclusive, and supportive classroom climate conducive to social-emotional development and the embodiment of the IB Learner Profile attributes. Integrate culturally responsive teaching methodologies and varied artistic perspectives to cultivate global-mindedness and reverence for all cultural heritages and backgrounds. Employ social-emotional learning strategies to facilitate self-expression, collaborative skills, and effective communication among young students. Maintain rigorous expectations for all students while implementing differentiated instruction to address diverse learning requirements. Collaborate with classroom educators and specialist staff to support PYP planning initiatives and ensure the substantive integration of the arts across all curriculum areas. Participate in continuous professional development and reflective practice to strengthen instructional quality and contribute to a cooperative, IB-focused school community at Lee F. Jackson Elementary School. Qualifications Valid NYS certification in Visual Arts K - 12 Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices. Bilingual/Multilingual strongly encouraged to apply APPOINTMENT: Appointment to this position shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, following a comprehensive review of the candidate’s training, experience, certifications, credentials, and demonstrated qualifications.
