This position is responsible for assisting a classroom teacher, co-teaching and, at times, acting as a substitute teacher. Requirements are: Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience in Special Education (Preferred) Fingerprint Clearance from the NYS Education Department (NYSED) Interest in obtaining New York State Teaching Assistant Certification Status of Position: Full-time Effective Date of Employment: April 7, 2025 (or until vacancy is filled) Last Day for Filing Application: Open until vacancy is filled Essential Functions of the job may include, but are not limited to the following: Working collaboratively with and under the direction of the teacher to: Provide direct instructional support to students in a positive environment. Assist with the development of specially designed instruction to improve the development of sensory-and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory. Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students' individualized education program (IEP) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system. Modify the curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. Help establish rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students. Assist in developing a structured learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students.
