Location: Deasy Elementary School Hours:7:00am – 3:30pm Responsibilities:Reports to the Director of Facilities and coordinates with the building principal to ensure proper operation of buildingChecks and performs minor maintenance of the following on a daily basis: school playground equipment, boilers, HVAC; electrical, pneumatic, lighting, PA, burglar and fire alarm systemsReplaces burned out lights, small fixtures, and ballastsPerforms minor carpentry and plumbing repairsPaints, vacuums, strips and waxes floorsReplaces floor tilesClears leaves and snow from sidewalks and building entrances/roof drainsMoves furniture and equipmentInventories and orders supplies as neededSets up rooms for various eventsRemoves garbage and graffiti from the buildingPerforms other custodial duties as designedAssists teachers and other school staff to expedite work orders and performs other duties as assigned that support the needs of childrenAssigns and supervises cleaners and custodiansCompiles and completes various reports and work ordersResponds to calls from police and fire departments Qualifications and Requirements:THIS IS A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT – The successful candidate must take and pass the Glen Cove Civil Service Head Custodian examination when first offered and qualify for placement on the List of EligiblesMinimum two years’ satisfactory experience in building cleaning and maintenance activitiesBasic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systemsAbility to work under pressure, meet deadlines and remain flexibleAbility to effectively a manage a complex building and motivate cleaning and custodial staffFingerprint clearance through NYSED and “Letter of Good Conduct” from your Local Police Department required Salary: As per contract (prorated) Effective: Immediately
