Secondary Math Instructional Coach7 – 12OverviewA secondary mathematics coach will play a crucial role in supporting both students and teachers in grades 7 through 12 to excel in mathematics. The goal and the focus of the coach will be on supporting and empowering teachers to increase student learning, create positive student identities, and develop confident users of mathematics.Job Description & Responsibilities· The mathematics coach will provide support and professional development opportunities for mathematics teachers.· The mathematics coach will work closely with teachers to ensure that the curriculum is aligned with state standards. They may assist in developing or refining curriculum materials, pacing guides, and assessments to ensure coherence and rigor in instruction.· The mathematics coach will help teachers analyze student data from assessments to identify areas of strength and weakness. They will assist in interpreting assessment results to inform instructional decisions, differentiation strategies, and interventions for students who may be struggling.· The mathematics coach will demonstrate effective teaching strategies through modeling lessons or co-teaching with classroom teachers.· Mathematics coach will facilitate PLCs where teachers can collaborate, share resources, and discuss effective instructional practices.· Mathematics coach will stay current with the latest research, educational trends, and best practices in mathematics instruction. The coach will attend conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills.Qualifications:· Appropriate NYS certification· Excellent communication skills· Experience teaching and planning instruction for ENL learners· Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.· Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in secondary mathematics.· Experience in curriculum development/pacing.· Skilled in supporting both teachers and students.
