Fire Island is seeking a versatile musician and teacher to helm its PK-6 music program, which includes classroom music, concert band, ukulele ensemble, and musical theater. Qualified candidates will possess each of the following:* A valid NYS Music Teaching certificate* Proficiency in a rhythm section instrument (i.e. piano, guitar, bass, drums)* Proficiency in a wind instrument or voice* Literacy in diverse musical genres and approaches to music education Preferred candidates may possess any or all of the following:* At least 2 years teaching experience at the elementary level* Familiarity with technological tools for education and music* Familiarity with instrument mechanics and repair* Strong organizational and communication skills* Musical theater direction experience Job responsibilities include:* Teaching PK-6 classroom music* Directing the concert band* Teaching beginner ukulele* Providing lessons in band instruments* Directing an annual school musical* Leading an annual Spring concert showcasing all classes* Overseeing the maintenance of all equipment and supplies* Supporting student participation in NYSSMA and SCMEA festivals Final salary will range from $35,867 to $57,404 and will be determined by experience and highest degree earned.Please apply for this position on OLAS and address a job-specific cover letter to Mr. Travis Davey, Superintendent.Fire Island School District is comprised of a single building educating Gr. PK-6 students within small double-grade classrooms (PK-K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6). The school is located in the Corneille Estates section of Fire Island just outside Ocean Beach, and the district provides bus transportation for employees from Captree Boat Basin during the school year. School hours are 8:00 to 2:35pm. In July and August the school is accessible via the Bay Shore – Ocean Beach ferry.
