SummaryThe Assistant Teacher at Finn Academy is responsible for assisting a teacher in the education of scholars in a classroom or a laboratory setting. Assistant Teachers may contribute either general or specialized skills. Assistant Teachers work under the general supervision of a certified teacher.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.• Provide instructional services and support to scholars under the general supervision of classroom teacher• Assist in development and creation of instructional materials• Provide the teacher with information about scholars that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences• Review lessons prepared by teachers ahead of instruction• Appropriately model school norms, core values, and professional responsibilities• Prepare learning materials• Support in behavioral management• Supervise scholars to ensure safety inside and outside of the classroom (i.e.: hallway, recess, field studies, bathroom, etc.)• Support in data input and recordkeeping under teacher supervision and direction• Assist in maintaining scholar files• Attend to the physical needs of children, as needed• Assist in the orderly arrival and dismissal of scholars• Assist teacher in performing other clerical duties as needed• Help scholars navigate the environment (including peer interactions)• Maintain confidentiality of all scholars• Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership• Attend weekly professional development sessions as directed by leadership• Other duties as assignedEducation/Experience• High school degree• College credits preferred• Experience working with children preferredSkills/Abilities • Awareness of classroom instructional techniques and resources; • Awareness of the development and use of instructional materials; • Ability to read and interpret complex written material;• Ability to establish positive relationships with children and adults;• Dependable and able to take guidance from team members;• Flexibility and willingness to actively participate in school community;• Ability to proactively address scholar behavior;• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;• Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative and team work;• Commitment to the belief that all scholars can learn and to the mission of educational equality;• Fidelity to Finn Academy Charter School mission and Finn Academy Accountability Plan
