Summary: The Assistant Teacher at Finn Academy is responsible for assisting a teacher in the education of scholars in a classroom or a laboratory setting. Assistant Teachers may contribute either general or specialized skills. Assistant Teachers work under the general supervision of a certified teacher.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Provide instructional services and support to scholars under the general supervision of classroom teacherAssist in development and creation of instructional materialsProvide the teacher with information about scholars that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiencesReview lessons prepared by teachers ahead of instructionAppropriately model school norms, core values, and professional responsibilitiesPrepare learning materialsSupport in behavioral managementSupervise scholars to ensure safety inside and outside of the classroom (i.e.: hallway, recess, field studies, bathroom, etc.)Support in data input and recordkeeping under teacher supervision and directionAssist in maintaining scholar filesAttend to the physical needs of children, as neededAssist in the orderly arrival and dismissal of scholarsAssist teacher in performing other clerical duties as neededHelp scholars navigate the environment (including peer interactions)Maintain confidentiality of all scholarsPerform additional duties as assigned by school leadershipAttend weekly professional development sessions as directed by leadershipOther duties as assigned Education/ExperienceHigh school degreeCollege credits preferredExperience working with children preferred Skills/AbilitiesAwareness of classroom instructional techniques and resources;Awareness of the development and use of instructional materials;Ability to read and interpret complex written material;Ability to establish positive relationships with children and adults;Dependable and able to take guidance from team members;Flexibility and willingness to actively participate in school community;Ability to proactively address scholar behavior;Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative and team work;Commitment to the belief that all scholars can learn and to the mission of educational equality;Fidelity to Finn Academy Charter School mission and Finn Academy Accountability Plan License/CertificationTeaching Assistant CertificateLevel 1: High School diploma or GED -valid for 3 years and then you must advance to a Level 2 or Level 3 certification which requires college credits and one year of experience.Level 2: 9 college credits (Official College transcripts)-valid for 3 years and cannot be renewed.Level 3: 18 college credits (Official College transcripts)-does not expire, professional development hours required to maintain.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment.
