Job Title: Assistant Director of Multilingual Education Job Overview: East Ramapo Central School District is seeking an Assistant Director of Multilingual Education. The successful candidate will support the Secondary and Elementary Directors of Multilingual Education in ensuring that instruction and programs for multilingual learners across all schools and grade levels comply with federal and state regulations, including Commissioner's Regulations Part 154. This role includes supporting oversight with English as a New Language (ENL), bilingual, and world language programs, support hiring for instructional staff for ELL programs, evaluating school-based staff, coordinating professional development for teachers and administrators, supporting the administration of English Language Proficiency Assessments, and collaborating with various partners to enhance student outcomes. Bilingual candidates are preferred to meet the diverse needs of our student population. Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the Assistant Superintendent, Executive Director, and Directors of Multilingual Education on various tasks and projects, see below. Professional Development & Leadership Plan and facilitate professional learning sessions, including but not limited to SIFE, Schoolwide Systems training, and monthly teacher department meetings. Support in the development and management of the department’s professional development calendar. Collaborate with external partners (e.g., ARC, Bridges for Academic Success, Carnegie Learning, Cengage, Savvas, etc.) to deliver research-based professional development. Collaborate with Instructional Coordinators and Content Directors to deliver research-based professional development on instruction that meets the needs of ELLs across the content areas. Instructional & Program Support Plan and facilitate regular professional learning communities (PLCs). Conduct learning walks and provide actionable feedback to teachers and building administrators. Develop evidence-based instructional resources and support implementation of curricular programs in bilingual classrooms. Provide technical assistance for master scheduling and ELP assessment administration. Accountability & Compliance Lead the development and management of SIFE tracking systems to ensure accurate identification and placement. Monitor school compliance with CR Part 154 and ELP assessment procedures, including testing materials. Monitor & support school compliance with CR Part 154 for state assessments, including materials and procedures for providing ELL accommodations. Monitor and support identified schools alignment with their School Comprehensive Education Plans (SCEPs). Materials & Logistics Oversee procurement and distribution of instructional and program materials for ENL, bilingual, world language, and SIFE programs. Coordinate secure receipt, verification, and delivery of state ELP assessment materials. Staffing & Planning Assist in the hiring process for MLE programs. Family & Community Engagement Co-lead family engagement events and student recognition ceremonies, including the Seal of Biliteracy. Collaborate with the Family Resource Center and district communications to promote multilingual education initiatives. Cross-Departmental Collaboration Partner with Curriculum & Instruction, Technology, and Secondary Education departments to align course offerings and systems. Advocate for multilingual learner access in curriculum adoption and district initiatives. Qualifications: Master’s in Education, Special Education, TESOL, School Psychology, or a related field. Valid NYS District certificate required (SDL). Previous administrative experience is preferred, along with extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations for English Language Learners (ELLs), and Multilingual Learners (MLs), and instructional best practices to support varying levels of students. Experience in preparation and presentation of professional development is also preferred. Strong knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy, assessment tools, and techniques to address the needs of ELLs and MLs. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students and professionals. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred to meet the diverse needs of our student population. Work Environment: The Assistant Director of Multilingual Education will interact with students, staff, and community partners regularly. This role requires flexibility, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Travel between schools within the district will be required.
