Position: Executive Director of Special Education Location: East Ramapo Central School District, Spring Valley, NY Type: Full-time, 12-month position Start Date: July 1, 2025 Application Deadline: Open until filledPosition Overview:The East Ramapo Central School District seeks a dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as the Executive Director of Special Education. This role is central to ensuring high-quality, inclusive services and supports for students with disabilities across all district schools. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and foster collaboration across departments to support student achievement.Key Responsibilities:Lead and oversee the planning, development, and implementation of all special education programs (Pre-K to 12).Ensure compliance with IDEA, NYSED regulations, and district policies.Supervise and evaluate special education administrators, CSE chairs, and related service providers.Manage and monitor IEP development and service delivery for all classified students.Collaborate with building and district administrators to ensure appropriate placement, supports, and staffing.Oversee due process procedures, mediation, and impartial hearings.Provide professional development on best practices and legal updates to special education staff and administrators.Develop and manage the special education budget, including grants and out-of-district placements.Maintain communication and partnerships with families, outside agencies, and community-based organizations.Attend all district leadership meetings, executive cabinet meetings, and Board of Education meetings.Partner with the Human Resources and Business Offices on staffing, recruitment, and program alignment.Required Qualifications:New York State School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) certification.At least five years of successful leadership experience in special education administration.Deep knowledge of special education law, compliance, instructional best practices, and inclusive education.Demonstrated experience supervising staff and leading large-scale initiatives.Experience working in a large, urban, and diverse public school district.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with mediation, impartial hearings, and due process proceedings.Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Salary:Commensurate with experience and qualifications.To Apply: Please submit a resume and cover letter via OLAS: www.olasjobs.orgEast Ramapo Central School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer and celebrates diversity and inclusion in all hiring practices.
