Job Posting: Director of Social Studies (7–12)Location: DistrictwideType: Full-time, 12-month position Start Date: July 1, 2025Application Deadline: June 1, 2025 or until position is filledThe East Ramapo Central School District is seeking a visionary and collaborative instructional leader to serve as Director of Social Studies (7–12). This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the district’s Social Studies program, ensuring that all students are engaged in rigorous, inclusive, and culturally responsive instruction that prepares them for college, career, and civic life.The Director of Social Studies will work closely with district and school leaders to design and implement high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum, drive professional learning, and support data-informed instruction across grades 7–12. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with deep expertise in Social Studies pedagogy and curriculum leadership, along with a strong commitment to educational equity and student achievement. The candidate must demonstrate proven success to improve student achievement and possess experience in a large, diverse district with a substantial multilingual student population. Key Responsibilities:Lead the development, alignment, and implementation of a robust 7–12 Social Studies curriculum aligned with NYS and Next Generation Learning Standards.Collaborate with building and district administrators to ensure consistency and instructional excellence across all grade levels.Design and deliver job-embedded professional development, coaching, and instructional support for teachers.Work closely with ENL and support staff to integrate multilingual education (MLE) practices into science curriculum and instructional delivery.Analyze student achievement and teacher performance data to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.Support educators in using data to differentiate instruction, particularly for students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and diverse student populations.Build strong partnerships with school leaders, families, and community stakeholders to support social studies education district-wide.Support alignment of social studies initiatives with district-wide goals, including equity, social-emotional learning, technology integration, and civic readiness.Monitor instructional quality and prepare reports on curriculum implementation, instructional initiatives, and student performance. Required Qualifications:Master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.Valid New York State certification as a Social Studies teacher.New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification.Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience in Social Studies.Proven track record in instructional leadership and improving student achievement.Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and data analysis.Experience supporting diverse student populations, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.Preferred Qualifications:Deep knowledge of NYS academic standards and best practices in Social Studies instruction.NYS School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification.Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Social Studies.Proven track record in instructional leadership and improving student achievement.Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and data analysis.Experience supporting diverse student populations, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.Work Environment:Must be available to travel to schools across the district.Work may occur in classrooms, district offices, or remote settings, as needed.Salary and Benefits:Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
