Position Title: Assistant Principal Reports to: Building Principal (High School Building Principals and Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education)Summary: The Newcomer Academy services approximately 100-150 high school English language learners who are newly arrived to the district. The Academy aims to provide students with academic, linguistic, and social-emotional support as they transition to one of the district’s high schools. Students engage in 9th-grade credit-bearing courses that prepare them to meet high school graduation requirements. Students are enrolled throughout the school year and then transition to their respective high schools.Education/Certification:Master’s DegreeValid NYS Building certificate required (SBL) QualificationsMinimum of 5 years of teaching experienceMinimum of 2 years of administrative experienceExceptional communication and facilitation skillsExperience communicating with linguistically diverse families/caregiversExperience with social-emotional needs of culturally diverse and newly arrived studentsExperience in and demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement workshops, including presentations to adults and students.Knowledge of varied teaching strategies and methods of staff development specific to linguistically diverse and newly arrived students.Ability to manage many projects at once and prioritize well.Organizational and decision-making skills to ensure projects are cost-effective and funds are managed/monitored wisely Position: Assistant Principal- Newcomers AcademyPosition Goals:Provides leadership in improving instruction, organization, and operation of the school program under the supervision of the high school Principals, Director of Multilingual Education, and Assistant Superintendent of Secondary. Responsibilities and Duties:Assist in supervising the school’s operational management of the Newcomer program by creating a conducive instructional and learning environment.Conduct staff observations and evaluations. Maintain SEL Curriculum for students and adults. Communicate orally and in writing with school staff, district staff, pupils, parents, and community as directed by the Principal and Director of Multilingual Education.Plan, organize, administer, and schedule instructional and non-instructional programs and activities, such as Community nights.Work with the relevant Director of Multilingual Education and building principal to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of the written, taught, and tested curriculum to increase student achievement and close performance gaps.Create a master schedule that aligns with the District’s mission and vision.Other duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of Multilingual Education, or the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary
