Maintenance Crew Leader DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSUnder general supervision, an employee in this class supervises and participates in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the buildings and grounds of a school district. The employee supervises, directly and through subordinate supervisors, a number of skilled employees assigned to maintain and repair the school district's buildings, equipment, and other properties. Responsibility is included for scheduling shifts and vacations. The employee will be responsible for preparing and maintaining the division’s budget. Supervisory responsibilities include evaluation of personnel, monitoring performance, and recommending programs or procedures to develop effective working skills. Work is performed under the supervision of the superintendent who reviews work through conferences and inspections of projects while in progress and upon completion. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIESAssigns and oversees the work of school maintenance personnel, and/or outside contractors, engaged in repairing and maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment in a school district; reviews work in progress to ensure adherence to time schedules and departmental standards;Supervises and advises workers on the best methods of installing or repairing door locks, hinges,shelf brackets, sash chains, and other building fixtures;Makes frequent inspections of school buildings to determine maintenance needs of floors, walls, windows, doors, desks, and boilers; prepares requisitions for lumber, paint, plumbing and lighting fixtures and other supplies needed to complete a maintenance project;Maintains time, supply and equipment records and prepares cost and progress reports on current projects; Participates in the maintenance of the school district’s buildings, equipment, and other properties. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICSComprehensive knowledge of buildings and grounds operation and maintenance practices; thorough knowledge of the basic principles and methods of plumbing, painting, plastering, masonry, and carpentry; good knowledge of the operation, maintenance and safety characteristics of high and low pressure boilers; good knowledge of effective supervisory methods; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate supervisors and tradespeople in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to estimate time and material costs and to order sufficient supplies and equipment for each project; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to prepare, interpret, and work from technical sketches, specifications and plans; ability to maintain records and to prepare time and progress reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from a standard senior high school, or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of experience in the performance and/or supervision of a variety of building maintenance activities. Crew Leader Experience Preferred Anticipated Salary: $120,000
