SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER Basic Function Under the direction of the Supervisor of Special Education the Special Education Teacher shall perform diagnostic evaluations and provide instruction essential for the education of disabled students. The special education program shall be consistent with State Education Department regulations as outlined in the Commissioner’s Regulations, Part 200 of the New York State Education Law, current School Board policies and District administrative practices that will provide disabled students with the opportunity to develop in relation to their abilities.Organizational RelationshipThe Special Education Teacher is responsible to the Supervisor of Special Education and Evaluator of Record in the completion of all responsibilities. The Supervisor, in coordination with the building principal where the special education teacher is assigned, shall supervise all special education teachers.Specific DutiesProvides for coordination of special education and integration of students in to the instructional programCoordinates the flow of educational programs for disabled students through the assessment, instructional and evaluation phases.Participates in referral, evaluation and CSE meetings as requested.Arranges IEP conferences with parents.Participates in monthly staff meetings.Assesses disabled students utilizing diagnostic instruments to provide for differentiated instruction.Establishes and maintains current knowledge of disabling conditions and best teaching practices.Acts as an advocate for the least restrictive environment (LRE) for all students.Creates and maintains a healthy and stimulating learning environment within the classroomTeaches students at their appropriate instructional level utilizing appropriate materials.Ensures compliance with IEP document
