Elmsford Union Free School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher to establish and grow our exciting new ASL program for students in grades 7-12. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of ASL education in our district and make a lasting impact on our students. We encourage both Deaf and hearing individuals to apply.About the Position:This position offers the chance to build a thriving ASL program from the ground up. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in developing curriculum, fostering student interest, and creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities include:Designing and implementing engaging ASL curriculum aligned with national and state standards (when available).Teaching ASL levels I-IV (and potentially beyond) to students in grades 7-12.Creating a supportive and immersive learning environment that promotes language acquisition and cultural understanding.Developing and implementing assessments to measure student progress.Collaborating with school staff, administrators, and families to promote the ASL program and its benefits.Advising and mentoring students interested in ASL and Deaf culture.Potentially leading extracurricular activities related to ASL and Deaf community engagement.Staying current with best practices in ASL education and incorporating innovative teaching methods.Qualifications:Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.Strong understanding of Deaf culture and community.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.Demonstrated passion for ASL and Deaf education.Experience in curriculum development is a plus.We Offer:A supportive and collaborative work environment.
