Evergreen Charter School is located in the heart of Hempstead, a state-of-the-art secondary school, serving students in grades 7-12. Classroom teachers are responsible for ensuring that all students in their classes are achieving at high levels academically, emotionally, and socially. The AP Psychology Teacher will design and deliver rigorous, engaging instruction in AP Psychology for grades 11–12, aligned to the College Board curriculum and exam. The teacher will foster critical thinking, promote scientific literacy in psychology, and prepare students for the AP exam.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop effective, standard-aligned lessons that support student learning and achievement of school academic objectives, benchmarks and state learning standardsPlan purposefully to provide students with opportunities for constructing meaning and developing understandings of new conceptsUtilize developmentally appropriate and rigorous curricula and instructional materials and present students with new ideas and concepts through a variety of strategies that inspire and guide them to explore, express, and uncover new ideasBuild relationships with families of ECS students through frequent communication about students’ progress and ways that families can support their children’s learningCreate a classroom community that maintains the school’s high academic and social expectations for studentsActively work to improve your own practice, to acquire and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for excellent instruction, and to generally increase their effectiveness in the classroom and the school communityOperate according to the professional standards of the school and uphold the vision and mission of the schoolOther assignments as needed to support the needs of the school, as may be assigned by the principal or their designeeQUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES- Understanding of and commitment to the mission, goals, educational philosophy, and activities of Evergreen, as described in the school’s charter- Bachelor’s Degree required, higher degree preferred- Valid New York State teaching certification- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is helpful- Experience working with diverse populations of students, parents, and families- Commitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional development.- Work Location:- Evergreen is located in Hempstead, NY- Evergreen Charter School is an equal opportunity employer (EEO).- Job Type: Full-time- Benefits:- Dental insurance- Health insurance- Life insurance- Paid time off- Retirement plan- Vision insurance- Schedule:- 8-hour shift- Day shift- Monday to Friday- Education:- Bachelor's (Required)- Experience:- Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)- License/Certification:- NY State Teaching Certification (Preferred)- Work Location: In person
