Evergreen Charter School will open in September 2025 in the heart of Hempstead, a state-of-the-art secondary school, serving students in grades 5. This will be the first secondary school in NY State whose building will receive Platinum LEED status.Classroom teachers are responsible for ensuring that all students in their classes are achieving at high levels academically, emotionally, and socially.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop effective, standard-aligned lessons that support student learning and achievement of school academic objectives, benchmarks and state learning standardsPlan purposefully to provide students with opportunities for constructing meaning and developing understandings of new conceptsUtilize developmentally appropriate and rigorous curricula and instructional materials and present students with new ideas and concepts through a variety of strategies that inspire and guide them to explore, express, and uncover new ideasBuild relationships with families of ECS students through frequent communication about students’ progress and ways that families can support their children’s learningCreate a classroom community that maintains the school’s high academic and social expectations for studentsActively work to improve their own practice, to acquire and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for excellent instruction, and to generally increase their effectiveness in the classroom and the school communityOperate according to the professional standards of the school and uphold the vision and mission of the schoolOther assignments as needed to support the needs of the school, as may be assigned by the principal or their designeeQUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIESUnderstanding of and commitment to the mission, goals, educational philosophy, and activities of Evergreen, as described in the school’s charterBachelor’s Degree required, higher degree preferredValid New York State teaching certificationBilingual (Spanish/English) is helpfulExperience working with diverse populations of students, parents, and familiesCommitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional development.
