Cleaner (School Districts)2025-2026JOB TYPE: Full Time (12 Month) ProbationarySALARY: As per CSEA Custodial/Maintenance unit contractJOB DESCRIPTION:The Edgemont UFSD is seeking a candidate to fill one (1) Cleaner position in the FacilitiesDepartment. Location to be determined. This is a 12–month, non-competitive position,subject to a 52-week probationary period. The assignment starts effective October 23,2025. Internal candidates may apply for the position. Requests for transfer are subject toadministrative review and approval.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:Under direct supervision, incumbents of this class perform routine cleaning duties. Thework of a Cleaner is distinguished from Custodial Worker in that a person in this position isnot required to perform minor repairs or complex maintenance duties. Supervision is nota responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)Sweeps and mops floors, corridors, and stairs;Vacuums floors, rugs, carpets;Washes windows and lavatory fixtures;Dusts woodwork, furniture, and other articles;Waxes floors and furniture;Replenishes lavatory supplies;Empties trash receptacles;Replaces light bulbs;Shovels snow;Set thermostats, as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES:Familiarity with building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; ability to use buildingcleaning supplies and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and writtendirections; thoroughness; dependability; ability to read, write, understand andcommunicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position;physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: None.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS: *Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30),3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education torequest a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants forcertification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schoolsand boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
