Edgemont Junior Senior High School Dean of Students (.6)Job description:The Dean of Students is responsible for creating protocols around attendance; meeting with students to discuss attendance and related behaviors; and collaborating with teachers, administrators, counselors and psychologists to help provide students with necessary support to improve student outcomes. The Dean of Students helps to create awareness, amongst all members of the school community, of best practices in the field of social and emotional well-being in schools related to attendance issues, including consequences that are clear, consistent, firm, restorative and not simply punitive. The Dean of Students may also be asked to assist administration with other disciplinary infractions. The Dean of Students is a Teacher on Special Assignment. Duties: Run daily attendance reportsMeet with students who have attendance infractions Create consistent policies around attendanceConnect students with necessary mental health practitionersConference with parents as necessary Be a conduit between students, parents, teachers and administrationDocument student meetings and consequences; enter in Infinite CampusUse data to inform decision-making around attendance policiesAssist administration with other disciplinary issues, as neededCommunicate with attendance clerk, as neededCommunicate with parents, as needed Communicate with teachers, as needed Generate and distribute absent notices at 3, 6, and 9 day intervalsEstablish relationships with students Provide Tier 2 support to students to help with academic lags due to absencesRequirements:At least five years of teaching experienceValid NYS 7-12 teaching certificationSBL/SDL encouraged, but not requiredExperience with Infinite Campus Experience with restorative justice practices Experience with Attendance features in Infinite CampusKnowledge of NY State attendance requirements and policies
