Elementary Literacy Coach (K-1), Probationary2025-2026Waverly SchoolThe Elementary Literacy Coach plays a key role in supporting and enhancing the foundational literacy development of students. This position involves collaborating with teachers to improve instructional strategies, implement effective literacy practices, and analyze student performance data to inform teaching and learning. The Literacy Coach will help build a school-wide culture of deep learning and guide teachers in creating a stimulating and effective literacy-rich environment.Key Responsibilities:Collaborative Support:Work closely with classroom teachers to design and implement effective literacy instruction across all grade levels.Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and professional development to teachers to enhance their literacy teaching strategies.Observe, in a non-evaluative manner, classroom instruction and provide feedback and strategies for improvement in literacy teaching.Collaborate with coaches from other 2 elementary schools to ensure consistency of the programming.Curriculum and Instruction:Assist teachers in selecting and adapting age-appropriate literacy materials and resources that support the curriculum and diverse learners.Facilitate the integration of literacy instruction across all subject areas, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.Support teachers in developing differentiated instruction and intervention plans for students based on data.Data Analysis and Student Support:Analyze student assessment data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement in literacy skills.Work with teachers to create and implement intervention plans for all students, including those with special education and ENL needsAssist in progress monitoring and tracking student growth in reading and writing.Participate in both school-wide and district-wide MTSS Teams.Professional Development:Plan and lead professional development workshops and training sessions focused on best practices in literacy instruction.Stay informed about current research and trends in literacy education and share knowledge with teachers.Encourage collaboration among staff to share successful literacy strategies and resources.Family and Community Engagement:Support family literacy programs and workshops to engage parents and caregivers in the literacy development of their children.Promote literacy activities that involve families and the broader school community.Administrative Support:Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide literacy goals and initiatives.Maintain records and documentation related to literacy coaching activities and student progress.Support the administration in reporting literacy data and progress to stakeholders.Requirements:Dual NYS certification preferred: Elementary/Childhood Education and LiteracyNYSED Fingerprint Clearance*Employment Terms:10 month, full time probationary positionIn accordance with the Eastchester Teachers Association (ETA) negotiated salary schedule, range begins at $86,668, step placement contingent upon prior related experience. Internal transfers will maintain their step and salary placement.*Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law ยงยง305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
