Junior Network SpecialistDistrict-WideEffective: April 2024There is an immediate vacancy for a Junior Network Specialist assigned to the Technology Department. This is a twelve – month, competitive position, subject to a 52-week probationary period.Duties and Responsibilities:Assists in the cabling, configuring, and installation of local and/or wide area network hardware and software;Assists in troubleshooting hardware and software conflicts and problems;Assists in providing required upgrades and patches;Assists in providing required configuration changes;May maintain a database of configurations;Travel between district buildings to complete assignments using your own vehicle;May be assigned to other duties as required by the Director of Technology. Qualifications:In order to be considered, candidates must either hold the title or have successfully passed the required civil service examination for the title of Junior Network Specialist, and be reachable on the corresponding list of eligibles.Superior technical skills and knowledge: Under direct supervision of a higher technical employee, this position assists in the installation and maintenance of local and/or wide area (LAN and/or WAN) computer networks. Incumbent is required to respond to service calls from district users.Outstanding interpersonal skills: The ability to deal effectively with people – in person and on the telephone – and to work well under pressure. Candidates must be able to simplify technical terminology for training purposes and be able to identify and resolve user problems. The position requires someone who can communicate effectively both orally and in writing and possess strong presentation skills. Candidates must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. They must have initiative, tact, patience, sound judgment and flexibility.Excellent organizational skills. The position requires someone who has the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments.Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience installing, operating, and maintaining local area networks (LAN) and/or wide area networks (WAN).Valid drivers' license.Employment Terms:12 month probationary position if eligible for transfer or reachable on the corresponding eligible list or provisional, which requires successfully passing the required Civil Service exam for the job title.Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
