High School Counselor & Transition Coordinator2024-2025Eastchester High SchoolThe Eastchester UFSD is seeking a dedicated and experienced High School Counselor with a strong background in transition coordination for students with disabilities at the high school level to join our Guidance Department. The ideal candidate will have experience as a high school counselor and also have a strong background in providing transition coordination for students and their families in order to meet post-secondary goals. Candidates with experience in providing counseling support for students with diverse backgrounds and learning modalities, as well as supporting Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) are strongly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities:Provide academic and emotional guidance to high school studentsAssist students in developing educational and post-secondary career goalsCoordinate transition services for students with disabilitiesCollaborate and communicate with County and State agencies to arrange for adult services and supports Provide counseling for students with neurodivergent backgroundsAssist in the implementation and promotion of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programsCollaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student successCreate and host workshops and informational sessions for parents/guardians and students Assist students with high school course selection, obtaining post-secondary services and supports, as well as career technical educational programmingAssists students in making course and subject selections, as well as with evaluating career interests and choices.Support students' in obtaining transitional supports and expereinces that will prepare them for their post-secondary goalsAssists in the scheduling of classes.Obtains and disseminates information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations.Assists students with admissions, scholarship and identifying employment and post-secondary academic opportunities.Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services.Researches educational and career opportunities, and coordinates with teachers, college and university personnel, resource specialists, and business and community organizations for the purpose of providing information, and making recommendations.Assists with the registration and orientation students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunitiesProvide academic and emotional guidance to high school studentsProvide counseling for students with neurodivergent backgroundsServes as ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.Plans and coordinates activities between institutions of higher learning, businesses and other organizations related to guidance responsibilities.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.Requirements:Knowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility requirements.Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs and other educational opportunities.Knowledge of post-secondary opportunities and systems in order to secure adult services, supports and related resourcecs. Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities and employment.Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.Knowledge of student information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.Ability to organize and coordinate work.Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.Certification: NYS School Counselor NYSED Fingerprint Clearance* Employment Terms:10 month, probationary positionSalary range in accordance with the Eastchester Teachers Association (ETA) negotiated salary schedule; $61,939 - $146,440, step placement contingent upon prior related experience. *Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law ยงยง305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
