There is an immediate vacancy for a secretarial support person in the Waverly School Principal’s office. This position follows Civil Service guidelines in the job title Secretary to School Principal.QUALIFICATIONS:In order to be considered, candidates must either hold the title or have successfully passed the required civil service examination for the title of Secretary to School Principal, and be reachable on the corresponding list of eligibles. A provisional appointment can only be considered in the absence of a valid list of eligibles.Outstanding interpersonal skills: This position interfaces directly with students, teachers, other school personnel, parents and the general public. It requires the ability to deal effectively with people – in person and on the telephone – and to work well under pressure.Excellent organizational skills: The position requires someone who can handle multiple simultaneous tasks expediently and with accuracy. Attention to details is eminent.Superior technical skills: A high degree of competence, combining speed and accuracy, in the use of office technology, particularly, Google Suite applications, Microsoft applications, and E-School; thorough knowledge of the responsibilities of an executive level secretary; clerical aptitude, accuracy, resourcefulness and initiative are required; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions and ability to compose and edit routine letters and memoranda.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Acts as secretary to the school principal;Relieves school principal of details which do not require their personal attention by the use of discretion, tact and thorough knowledge of district/office policies and procedures;Utilizes a variety of automated systems equipment to produce such materials as correspondence, reports, contracts, specifications and/or data;Proficient in all Google Suite applications and all Microsoft Office applications. Competency, including speed and accuracy, in the use of office technology, and knowledge of eSchool, state data reporting applications, Takes rough notes of minutes of meetings or hearings and types same;Performs clerical work in the maintenance of complex and confidential records and files, both manually and by use of automated systems;Answers telephone and responds to requested information and/or refers inquiries to the appropriate party;Arranges appointments and meetings and prepares materials for them;Open, sorts and screens incoming mail and answers routine correspondence; routes remainder to the appropriate party;Compiles a variety of data to be used as a basis for reports and prepares reports or statements;May assign and check the work of other clerical employees;Other assignments and responsibilities associated with and not limited to the Waverly School’s Main Office.PREREQUISITES:In order to be considered, candidates must either hold the title or have successfully passed the required civil service examination for the title of Secretary to School Principal, and be reachable on the corresponding list of eligibles. A provisional appointment can only be considered in the absence of a valid list of eligibles.Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either (a) five (5) years of secretarial experience in support of higher level administrator(s), or a department or unit head, three (3) years of which must have involved the use of computer applications to maintain records and produce correspondence; or (b) graduation from a post high school secretarial or business school with a degree or certificate* in secretarial sciences, office technology or closely related field and three (3) years of the specialized experience using computer applications as described in (a).EMPLOYMENT TERMS:In order to be considered, candidates must either hold the title or have successfully passed the required civil service examination for the title of Secretary to School Principal, and be reachable on the corresponding list of eligibles. A provisional appointment can only be considered in the absence of a valid list of eligibles.Type: 12 month probationary position if eligible for transfer or reachable on the corresponding eligible list or provisional, which requires successfully passing the required Civil Service exam for the job title.Hours: 7:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. The clerical workweek is 35 hours, 7 hours per day.Salary and Benefits: Depending upon experience, salary range begins at $49,923 in 21 steps. Benefits are covered by the CSEA contract.Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
