Theater Director, Full-Time2023-2024Districtwide The Eastchester School District is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time position of Theater Director, responsible for the overall management and operation of the school district’s theater. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to attending all events utilizing the auditorium or other in-district locations, including after school, evening and weekend events; operating audio/visual/lighting equipment; supervising and scheduling students operating the audio/visual/lighting equipment, as applicable and keeping Administration and Facilities informed of any related matters that may need attention. Duties:Maintenance:Standard Lighting Maintenance- Replace correct lamps in lighting instrumentsReplace gels regularlyRefocus instruments based on eventsClean and repair electrical systems (i.e. - dimmers twice a year, lighting board and amps)Replaced worn cablesInspect auditorium weekly for damage and reportEnsure sound system is operable prior to each eventContact/meet with vendors for purchases and repairs in the auditorium in consultation with Facilities Dept.Be on hand during repairs and installationsKeep administration and buildings and grounds informed on matters needing attentionRecommend purchases, repairs and upgradesEnsure all equipment is hung or installed to OSHA safety standardsScheduling:Coordinate and communicate performance stage use for the year, working closely with each performance area (HS & MS Band, Orchestra & Chorus, Jazz Co, Players Club) to ensure fair and equitable rehearsal time on stageSchedule district needs for the space and maintain a shared calendar.Apprise all parties of rules of the facility, fire codes, parking and building access Update custodial staff weekly on events in the auditoriumEnsure everything required for an event is on hand. Contact custodians for what is missing. Technical Duties:Assist with technical aspects of rehearsals & performances for all school performance events and Board of Education Meetings.Provide proper connections to house system when neededDesign, program and implement lighting and sound for all district eventsBe on hand for auditorium useTrain students to follow cues and run boards during showsTrain student crew and stage manager Events:Observe that all fire codes for exits are being observed at every useCheck theater for damage after eventsRemain in theater until all parties have moved into lobby areaContact Maintenance to have AC or heat onUpdate info on theater marquee Requirements:Thoroughly knowledgeable in the programming and operation of all current digital lighting desks and DMX lighting componentsBasic knowledge of dimmer capacity for incandescent fixtures as well as LED programming Capable of recommending theatrical upgrades and purchasesSkilled in lighting designBasic knowledge of both digital and analogue sound boards and sound designSet design and set construction experience is a strong plusUp to date on all current safety standards for stageOffice management skills, including scheduling, planning, assigning and supervising the work of others;Ability to use computer applications, i.e. spreadsheets, word processing, email.An Associate’s Degree* and two (2) years of experience in which the primary function of the position is in the operation or management of a theatrical production, and/or installation and maintenance of theater set lighting and sound systems. SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 college credits* in Theater Production, Theater Arts Management, Arts Administration, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the work experience as described above.Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the positionNYSED Fingerprint Clearance* Employment Terms:Full-time - 40 hours per week - daily hours TBD to span late afternoon/early evening 10 month assignment (September - June) Provisional appointment; probationary appointment contingent upon successfully passing the required civil service examination for the title.Salary range up to $70,000/year.
