Maintenance Laborer, Regular Substitute - Districtwide (February - June 2023)There is an immediate vacancy for a per diem regular substitute Maintenance Laborer assigned to the Grounds Department. QUALIFICATIONS:A familiarity with accepted procedures and practices of grounds maintenance work.Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license (Class D or higher).Ability to follow oral instructions; ability to get along well with others;Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position.Willingness to perform routine manual work; industrious in work performance; physical endurance and agility;Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Mow, reseed, roll, and fertilize lawns and athletic fields; care for flower beds; rake leaves; trims hedges, trees and shrubs and other related maintenance of the School District grounds.Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, (i.e. snow plows, tractors, and ride-on mowing equipment).Shovel or plow snow and ice from sidewalks and driveways.Patch blacktop on sidewalks and driveways.Clean gutters and catch basins.Perform miscellaneous tasks inside school buildings during inclement weather and winter months.Line athletic fields for sports events.Complete other related assignments on an as needed basis.Minor masonry repairs.May be assigned building cleaning, repairs and maintenance.May be assigned to other duties as required by School District Administration.PREREQUISITE: Completion of high school and one-year experience in grounds maintenance work preferred.EMPLOYMENT TERMS:Type: Hourly position.Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.(or days and times may vary depending on athletic or school events).Salary: $22.10/hourFingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES). The Commissioner of Education carries out these responsibilities through the New York State Education Department's Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability (OSPRA).
