Anticipated VacancyAdult Education: Career Counselor/Case Manager(2.0 FTE) LOCATION(S): ALI QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in counseling, psychology, or related field or equivalent experience working with adults seeking career counseling; MSW preferred At least 6 months of counseling individuals or groups Candidates should have knowledge of data bases, excellent organizational skills, knowledge of community resources, and willingness to help others; Report writing, exceptional communication skills (internal and external), and excellent listening skills Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. DUTIES: This is a grant-funded full-time position funded by revenue received through county, state and federal funding sources. Hours may vary, including some evening hours. The purpose of this position is to ensure that participants attending literacy and/or career training have access to employment counseling and coordination services while attending Dutchess BOCES Adult Education programs. Job responsibilities: 1. Instruction in Employment skills * At least Five (5) one-hour work skills training courses for students on the following topics: cover letters, resumes, applying to jobs (in person or online), for example. 2. Career Counseling/Planning *actively participate in scheduling and testing requirements for onboarding and intake of new students. * Provide effective counseling for individuals/groups relative to understanding and overcoming problems/barriers regarding their course selection, educational, career, and/or personal goals, which includes writing/updating necessary agency or grant funding reports. * Counsel students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, career planning, post-secondary education and career pathways.* Counsel individuals to help determine next steps to overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting students' educational goals. *Identify cases involving domestic abuse or family problems affecting students and refer them to the appropriate entity/agency. *Encourage students to seek additional assistance from mental health professionals when necessary. *Provide crisis intervention if/when necessary. 3. Case Management - Conduct follow-up appointments/phone calls with students to assist them with attendance in class, time management, and possible barriers to employment. * Maintain accurate and complete student records and case notes for assigned students/classes. * Provide community resources/referrals from partner agencies and attend various community meetings to showcase Adult Education Programs. * preform data entry and data base searches into ASIST and XenDirect Student Data Management databases. 4. Community Outreach and Networking * Meet with students at the Dutchess One Stop Career Center, the DCFS offices, and other agency locations as needed to assist the student's progress. * Network at community events and committees as a representative of Dutchess BOCES as assigned. 5. Employment Services and Follow-up * Posting jobs for students to apply to and network with area employers through job fairs, Chamber of Commerce events, and other opportunities throughout the year. * Collaborate with Dutchess BOCES ALI employees to organize at least one job fair to support participants in finding out about job opportunities. *Reach out to students between 3 and 9 months from program exit to record goal attainment, including furthering education and employment in a career field.START DATE: March 8, 2024GRADE LEVEL: N/A
