OverviewDevelopmental Disabilities Institute, DDI, is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities and other special needs. DDI has been a part of Long Island for over 50 years serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism, other developmental disabilities and special needs. DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various educational settings, residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services.Working in DDI's Early Childhood Services division the Early Childhood Aide works alongside the Special Education Teacher and Assistants as part of the interdisciplinary team. Working in the classroom the early Childhood Aide works with children with developmental disabilities on a variety of age appropriate educational goals.ResponsibilitiesSet up and maintain classroom materials and suppliesAssist with bussing at arrival and dismissalFollow lead of classroom teacherImplement outlined behavior treatment plansSupervise children during classroom activitiesDemonstrate knowledge of outlined curriculum and IFSP/IEP goalsAssist children in all daily living activitiesWork collaboratively with classroom staff and team membersOther duties as assignedEssential FunctionsMust be able to modify the area to secure the safety of childrenAbility to move/transport a child weighing up to 30 pounds to a height of 3 feet to place child on changing tableMust be able to move quickly after a child up to 200 feet to prevent elopementMust be able to position self or maneuver classroom to facilitate student instruction in classroom and playground environmentMust have ability to follow oral and written directions and detect/respond to fire alarmsMust be able to ascend and descend stairs with railingQualificationsHigh School Diploma requiredMinimum 6 college creditsMust possess NYS Level I Teaching Assistant certification within 6 months from entering this position
