The Director of Guidance is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and implementing of all phases of the counseling program on a district-wide basis. As the K-12 Guidance Director, you will play a pivotal role in promoting the academic achievement, personal development, and overall well-being of our students. You will lead a team of guidance counselors and collaborate with teachers, administrators, social workers, nurses, secretarial staff, and parents to implement comprehensive guidance programs that address the diverse needs of our student body. This position requires a visionary leader who is passionate about supporting students through their educational journey and preparing them for success beyond graduation. Performance Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):1. Personnel and Staff DevelopmentProvide staff development as needed to improve counseling services and to increase awareness of research, including disseminating information about current trends and research in the eld of school counseling and incorporating those best practices into program development.Advise school counselors of pertinent workshops and conferences for their professional growth.Encourage communication with colleges, universities, and scholarship resources.Conduct needs assessments and data analysis to identify areas for improvement and inform program development.Develop and implement a comprehensive K-12 guidance program aligned with state standards and best practices in the field.2. Supervisory ResponsibilitySupervise all school counselors, and clerical staff.Conduct observations and evaluations as assigned.Assist in the interview, selection, and assignment of all school counselors and social workers.Supervise all phases of the college selection/admission/application process.Act as a resource to counselors, students, and parents on matters related to programs, counseling, etc.Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Counseling Department.Develop and implement long-range and short-term planning and measurable goals for the District-wide guidance program.Develop and maintain a guidance plan in compliance with the New York State Standards.Coordinate college and career readiness initiatives, including college fairs, and career exploration activities, as well as standardized, New York State Testing, and SAT/ACT preparation.Proficiency in planning and developing the high school schedule; to include; analyzing class sizes and section needs, and working with the administration on appropriate teaching assignments.Develop, select, and evaluate homebound teachers for K-12 students.Supervise and support our homeless student liaison.Supervise and support students with 504 PlansCoordinate the College Admissions Program including: The secondary school record report folder (profile) for colleges. Statistical reports as needed regarding college admissions data. The College Procedure Handbook for 11th and 12th grade students and parents which is updated each school year. Naviance Implementation3. Professional DevelopmentAttend workshops and conferences for updates on the counseling curriculum, graduation requirements, etc.Work as part of the High School administrative team in the development of cohort studies.4. School and Community RelationsPlan and/or monitor all school counseling-related activities.Organize parent nights.Organize the dissemination of scholarship information.Coordinate Counseling Department information flow to parents.Supervise parent mailings and newsletters.Be available to meet with parents as needed or requested.Establish and maintain relationships with local community groups and individuals to develop, foster, and solicit understanding and support for overall guidance services and programs including Social and Emotional Learning and Wellness Programs.Assist in the development of district policies, regulations, and procedures as they relate to his/her areas of responsibility.5. General AdministrationDirect the student program planning process.Supervise the student record keeping.Advise Administration of the special academic needs of pupilsDevelop, implement, and direct all phases of the counseling program.Coordinate with building principals to ensure the efficacy of the District Guidance Plan is in place at all levels.Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.7. Qualifications for Position:Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and community members.Knowledge of current trends and best practices in school counseling and guidance.Familiarity with student information systems and data analysis tools.8. Certification (NYSED)SDA/SDBLMasters in School Counseling Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Professional Staff.
