Hourly Rates ( pending contract negotiations ): New Hire: $18.64 per hour Substitute: $17.00 per hour *All employees must be fingerprinted by NYSED FOOD SERVICE WORKER 8101 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS An employee in this class performs a variety of duties required in the operation of a school, institution or other public kitchen, serving and dining area. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Cook in charge, and is reviewed by direct observation. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES Sets up counter for food service. Serve food portions from steam table containers, deli bar and other dishes. Scrubs pots and other kitchen utensils by hand. May collect money for school lunches and a la carte items. Washes and prepares vegetables and assists cook with other food preparation duties. Prepares and serves all lunch items.. Assists in cleaning the kitchen at the end of service. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Good knowledge of the application of sound sanitation in the preparation of food and maintenance of the kitchen, some knowledge of the care and use of food service equipment and utensils. Ability to perform light manual labor; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Ability to stand for a minimum of four hours. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS There are no minimum qualifications or experience requirements for this position. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Candidates employed in a school must attend ongoing continuing education/training as required by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.
