Cold Spring Harbor is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team for an elementary leave replacement working with students in a 6:1:1 classroom setting. This position requires a teacher who is skilled in differentiating instruction and creating individualized plans to support students with a range of learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.Key Responsibilities:Provide direct instruction and support to students in a self-contained 6:1:1 classroom, where the student-to-teacher ratio is 6 students to 1 teacher and 1 paraprofessional.Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student, ensuring goals are specific, measurable, and aligned with state standards.Implement discrete trial teaching and ABA procedures Implement positive behavior support plansProvide guidance, supervision and training to support staff in the classroomMonitor and assess student progress regularly, adjusting teaching strategies and accommodations as necessary.Collaborate with special education support staff, general education teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure comprehensive support for students.Provide targeted interventions in areas such as reading, math, social skills, and emotional regulation.Foster an inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, self-esteem, and positive behavior.Maintain accurate records for IEPs, progress reports, and other required documentation.Participate in CSE meetings, parent conferences, and other school-related events as needed.Continuously engage in professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and instructional strategies.Qualifications:Certification in Special Education Experience working with elementary-aged students with special needs (preferably in a 6:1:1 classroom or similar setting).Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and the ability to implement them in a positive and proactive manner.Experience with discrete trial teaching and ABA methodology Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt materials to meet diverse learning needs.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and staff.Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.Experience with data collection and progress monitoring for IEP goals.Close
