Vacancy Notice ~ July 1, 2026 Assistant Superintendent of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Reports to: Superintendent of Schools The Assistant Superintendent of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services serves as a key member of the district’s leadership team, responsible for advancing a student-centered, inclusive, and innovative continuum of services that supports the academic, and developmental needs of all learners. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to collaboration, equity, and continuous improvement while fostering strong partnerships with staff, families, and the community. Qualifications: Required: NYS Certification as School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) NYS Certification in Special Education (or related field) Administrative experience in special education and/or PPS Extensive knowledge of NYS and federal laws/regulations (IDEA, Part 200, Section 504, Part 154) Preferred: Central office leadership experience Experience with budget development and grant management Strong background in inclusive practices and program development Demonstrated success in staff supervision and evaluation Supervises: Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Special Education Staff (shared with Principals & Building Leaders) PPS Staff (shared with Principals & Building Leaders) Collaborates with the building principals and Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services regarding the supervision of all staff in the Pupil Personnel Services Department including special education teachers, ENL teachers, psychologists, social workers, related service providers, service delivery consultants, nurses, special education teacher assistants and aides, and clerical staff in the Pupil Personnel Services areas. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet Serves as a Chairperson of the Committee on Special Education and Committee on Preschool Special Education. Ensures the District is in full compliance with Part 200 of the Commissioner’s regulations. Creates and administers the staff development program and in-service courses regarding the district’s special education services. Supervise independent service delivery consultants. Serves as the liaison to SEPTO. Arranges for the special education service delivery to all students designated by the CSE/CPSE. Collaborates with the Principals and the Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) regarding the development and review of the special education programs and services within the district. Prepares and manages federal entitlement grants and submits all year-end reports. Assumes responsibility for articulation among professionals for special education students who are transitioning between District schools. Completes all PD reports and relevant sections of the SA-100 required annually by the state. Submits Medicaid billing for eligible students. Ensures compliance with regulations pertaining to Section 504 accommodations and Response to Intervention (RTI) plans. Serves as a resource to building administrators. Collaborates with the Principals and Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) to ensure compliance with Part 154 regulations. Collaborates with the Principals and Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) in the interview process for applicants to Special Education and Pupil Services positions. Collaborates with the Principals and Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) to formally observe/evaluate all staff in the special education and pupil services department. Collaborates with the Principals, Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS), and Curriculum Directors and Chairpersons to implement the academic program. Prepares the Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services budget, in collaboration with Assistant Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS). Attends monthly BOCES Meetings, Leadership Meetings and Board of Education Meetings. Establishes/reviews health practices and procedures with school nurses, in conjunction with the school physician. Ensures compliance as it pertains to New York States immunization requirements (including review of exemption applications). Oversees the District’s Social-Emotional Wellness Program. Provides technical assistance and guidelines to PPS teams and building personnel, in consultation with legal counsel. The Assistant Superintendent of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) will be responsible for such additional duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent. This is a 12-month position.
