CROTON-HARMON SCHOOL DISTRICTAnticipated Vacancy for the 2024-2025 School Year Title of Position:Bilingual School Social WorkerSummary Description of Position:To provide social work services to parents and students, including non-English speaking families and students, in the schools and beyond the immediate school setting. To act as liaison among the schools, home and community and to assist with problems arising from the interaction of the student within these various settings.Certification Requirements:NYS Certified Social Worker- Bilingual NYS Certified School Social Worker- Bilingual Reports to:Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services and Building Principals Length of Work Year:10 MonthsSpecific Duties and Responsibilities:Serves as liaison between home and school in cases assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services and Building Principals Collaborates with English as a New Language teachers, school counselors and Community Aide Worker-Spanish speaking to support non-English speaking familiesInterprets school services, school programs, and school problems to parents.Counsels parents on student, school, and family problems in the school or at home. Facilities parenting program in the elementary school Explores community resources for referrals and helps parents make appropriate agency or school contacts.Explores family relationships, which may be interfering with a child's school adjustment.Gathers information from home visits, which will be useful to appropriate school personnel in planning the student's education.Serves as a channel for relaying the concerns, thoughts and attitudes of parents to the school.Co-facilitates speech/language and social skills groups with the clinical team.Serves as a channel for relaying the concerns, thoughts and attitudes of non -English speaking parents to the school.Assists school staff with the transition of newcomer families.Facilitates group counseling sessions, as assigned Facilitates state mandated programs, as assigned Serves as a social worker for district-operated special education programs and CSE assigned cases.Conducts parent and/or student in-school counseling as assigned by the CSE.Participates in special education parent/teacher and IEP conferences in order to assist teachers in discussion of a student's emotional, social and physical problems.When assigned, serves as a member of the CSE, or appears before the CSE as requested by the chairperson.Supports students in the Flexible Support Program at all school buildingsMakes visits to private or public special schools, in-state or out-of-state, to explore placement possibilities for students referred to the CSE.Compiles reports and materials for special school placement approval forms for the State Education Department.Assists parents and students in making visits to out-of-district special programs.Assists district special education teachers in handling special problems in the classroom. Serves as liaison between the district, outside agencies such as Child Protective Services, Social Services, Department of Mental Hygiene, and Family Court.Explores agency and community resources and makes referrals to community and social agencies,Provides school reports when released by parents to agencies working with a student and/or family.Defines school services to agencies and interprets agency reports and services to school personnel and parents.Interprets Family Court procedures to parents. Serves as liaison between home, school and agency when follow-up is necessaryas in foster care, child-abuse and neglect cases, and Family Court proceedingsInvestigates serious attendance problems and custodial residency cases as assigned.Makes home visits to explore reasons for truancy, provides reports to school administration and files PINS petitions for attendance problems as directed by the district administrators.Attends meetings and staff conferencesConsults with school psychologists, school counselors, nurses, principals, and teachers regarding students having school, home, and community difficulties.Participates in case conferences with school personnel.Attends staff and building meetings such as child study team, pupil personnel meetings, and faculty meetings as required.Maintains appropriate case records, reports, and files.Maintains up-to-date and accurate records as required by law, district policy or administrative regulation. Records include social histories, home visit reports, reports from outside agencies, and other confidential materials.Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services, Building Principals, the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
