BASIC FUNCTION:To instruct high school students to learn the fundamentals of how a child develops as they prepare in the proper practices, procedures and skills associated with the education of children or operation of a daycare center. To instruct students to meet entry level skills for employment or further their education training. QUALIFICATIONS:Should meet New York State teaching certification requirements for the Transitional A certificate. Requirements for the Transitional A certificate are listed on the homepage of the NYS Education Department Teaching Certification under ‘Certification Requirements’ in the subject area of ‘Career and Technical Teacher-Human Services-Early Childhood Development & Learning 7-12’ http://eservices.nysed.gov/teach/certhelp/CertRequirementHelp.doHold a valid NYS 7-12 certificate or at least an Associates degree in Early Childhood with two to four years of occupational work experience.Experience in providing instruction a plus.Candidate will have demonstrated the ability to provide sound instruction, ability to work in a team environment, work collaboratively with staff and administration. Possess good written and verbal skills. RESPONSIBILITIES:Educate on the basics and methodology of child development and early childhood education.Teach on how to develop a solid foundation in classroom arrangement, classroom management and curriculum development for infants/toddlers/preschoolers and young children.Instruct how to communicate and work with parents/guardians and staff in an education setting.Evaluate student progress and instruct students through on-site, work-based learning in a daycare center and gain formal childcare hours required to apply for Child Development Associate (CDA) certification.The classroom instructor will be responsible to develop in each student an awareness and understanding of the basic skills and knowledge associated to continue their education and/or work in the field.The instructor will be responsible for developing and evaluating student progress, instilling safe work habits and stressing the importance of reliability, competence, loyalty, and dependability.
