START DATE: July 20, 2026 LOCATION: Business Office SALARY: $55,400-70,400 This position involves responsibility for performance of specialized account clerical tasks with major emphasis on preparation, processing and maintenance of payrolls. Duties also include entering and retrieving information using computer database/spreadsheet software. Work is performed under general supervision of an administrator, with considerable use of independent judgement required and expected. This position requires anticipatory skills and ability to identify and communicate potential payroll issues and problems. Performs related work as required. Typical Work Activities & Responsibilities: Payroll Processing: Computes gross wages, records wage data into the computerized system, and maintains a complex set of payroll accounts. Deposits & Verification: Prepares direct deposits using ACH and proves gross payroll totals for accuracy. Compliance Coding: Ensures payroll expense is properly coded in accordance with the Uniform System of Accounts mandated by the Office of the State Comptroller. Contractual Calculations: Computes breakdowns of gross annual salaries resulting from revised pay rates, longevities, and credit calculations, ensuring compliance with school district bargaining unit contracts. Adjustments & Deductions: Revises payroll rates and deductions, including child support, union dues, insurance, charitable contributions, tax-sheltered annuities (TSA), credit union, etc. Tax & Agency Reporting: Processes W-2 information, produces annual statements, and prepares salary information for NYS retirement systems, unemployment reporting, and worker’s compensation. Returns & Documentation: Prepares various reports and processes monthly, quarterly, and annual returns (retirement, social security, federal/state withholding, etc.). Support: Provides confidential payroll information to individual employees and performs related activities as required. Minimum Qualifications: Must be on the Senior Account Clerk list; and Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping or accounting and two years of satisfactory office clerical experience which included as the major function the compilation and maintenance of financial accounts and records; or Graduation from high school and three years of satisfactory office clerical experience which included as the major function the compilation and maintenance of financial accounts and records.
