Title: Director of Physical Education, Athletics, and Extra-Curricular Activities General Statement of Duties The Director of Physical Education, Athletics, and Extra-Curricular Activities serves as a member of the District’s administrative team and is directly responsible to the Junior/Senior High School Principal and Superintendent of Schools. The Director provides leadership, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of the District’s physical education program, interscholastic athletic program, and extracurricular opportunities, grades K–12. The Director is responsible for ensuring all programs operate in accordance with Board of Education policies, New York State Education Department regulations, NYSPHSAA rules and regulations, and all applicable laws and guidelines. The Director shall serve as an administrative officer of the District and shall perform duties and responsibilities authorized under New York State Education Law, Board policy, and regulations of the Commissioner of Education. All authority and responsibilities are delegated by the Superintendent of Schools in collaboration with building principals. Performance Responsibilities Provides administrative leadership and oversight for the District’s physical education, athletics, and extracurricular programs K–12. Supervises and supports coaches, advisers, physical education staff, and approved volunteers in collaboration with building administration. Provides recommendations regarding hiring, staffing, retention, professional development, and program improvement. Develops, implements, and maintains the Coach’s Handbook, Adviser’s Handbook, Athletic and Extra-Curricular Code of Conduct, and related procedures. Oversees compliance with District policies, NYSPHSAA regulations, Section III requirements, safety standards, and student eligibility requirements. Coordinates student eligibility processes and supports implementation of the Athletic and Extra-Curricular Code of Conduct in collaboration with the Dean of Students and building administration. Develops and administers the annual budget for physical education, athletics, and extracurricular programs and monitors expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility. Coordinates scheduling for athletic contests, extracurricular events, facilities use, transportation, officials, and supervision coverage. Provides administrative visibility and support at district athletic contests, performances, and extracurricular events. Works collaboratively with Buildings and Grounds staff to ensure athletic and activity facilities are safe, properly prepared, and maintained. Leads long-range planning and evaluation of physical education, athletics, and extracurricular programming. Establishes and facilitates regular meetings with coaches, advisers, and staff to communicate expectations, policies, district initiatives, and procedures. Supports a positive student-centered culture emphasizing inclusion, wellness, leadership, sportsmanship, citizenship, and academic achievement. Coordinates athletic awards, inventories, equipment management, and required athletic registrations and documentation. Represents the District at league, Section III, Center State Conference, state, and professional organization meetings related to physical education, athletics, and extracurricular programming. Develops collaborative partnerships with community organizations and outside agencies to expand opportunities for students. Advises the Superintendent and building principals regarding policy development, operational concerns, and program needs related to physical education, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or Junior/Senior High School Principal. Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of New York State Education Department regulations, NYSPHSAA rules, Section III regulations, athletic administration, physical education programming, extracurricular programming, budgeting, supervision, and student support practices. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, technology, and interpersonal skills required. Administrative certification required or as determined appropriate by the District. This position reports directly to the Junior/Senior High School Principal and Superintendent of Schools and is evaluated by the Superintendent and/or designee.
