The Cooperstown Central School District is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Maintenance Worker. This is a 12-month, full time position, offering $23.18 per hour plus benefits package per the Service Unit Contract. This position works a day shift with slightly different start/end times for winter and summer seasons. The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of semi-skilled mechanical, construction, and other maintenance tasks. Anticipated start date is March 1, 2023. Distinguishing Features of the Class: This is work involving responsibility for performing rough or semi-skilled mechanical tasks of a recurring nature. Employees in this class assist skilled workmen in a variety of construction, installation, maintenance, and repair work. General instructions are received regarding routine jobs with detailed instructions on new or unusual assignments. Work is performed under varying degrees of supervision depending upon the nature of the assignment. Supervision may be exercised over the work of cleaners in the absence of the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. Work is performed under the supervision of the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds.Examples of Work:Performs semi-skilled work in carpentry, masonry, electrical, or painting operationsRepairs windows, doors, floors, walls, and other parts of buildingsAssists in the installation and maintenance of a wide variety of plumbing equipment and systemsAssists in cleaning and repairing boilers, pumps, heaters, pipelines, valves, and trapsAssists in the installation and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical features, equipment, and systemsAssists a skilled mechanic and individually performs semi-skilled repair work in connection with the repair, maintenance, and overhauling of motor equipmentRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Good working knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology, and safety precautions of one or more of the mechanical or construction trades; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; good eye-hand coordination; ability to get along well with others; manual dexterity; mechanical aptitude; dependability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:(a) One year of experience in general building construction, maintenance, or repair work in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, etc.; or (b) Three years of experience assisting in general building construction, maintenance, or repair work in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, etc.; or (c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State Operator’s License appropriate for the vehicles operated.NOTE: When operating a School Bus the incumbent must satisfy the requirements of a School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education.CLASSIFICATION: Non-Competitive (School Service)Qualified candidates apply on-line at www.olasjobs.org/southern or send a cover letter, resume, and district application to: Matthew Murphy, Director of Facilities, Cooperstown Central School, 39 Linden Avenue, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
